This very adorable and totally normal pose is called “the banana pose,” and it’s how they sit when they’re trying to regulate their body temperature! A seal’s body is super well insulated, except for their head and flippers. In order to protect those areas from cold water, they’ll just hold them up in the air and for an arc shape with their bodies. Simple! Science! Cute!
