The world is millions of years old, so it makes sense that there are so many things that we don’t know about. Small and large objects alike are being found all over the world with little to no background. As scientists try and figure out their histories, more and more interesting findings are made! Sometimes they crack the code, and sometimes the mystery stays a part of the history forever.
Stone Spheres in Costa Rica
in the Diquis Delta of Southern Costa Rica, giant stone spheres are scattered about. These stone objects were created by a Pre-Colombian civilization. They are made out of gabbro, which is a rock that forms from molten magma. Using other small stones as tools, the artisans crafted these stones to the best of their expertise and left them as monuments for their civilization. Others speculate that the spheres were used for astronomical reasons and in a directional sense. These spheres also have a very mysterious story behind them. The Chibchan peoples used to live and thrive in Costa Rica and other parts of Central America, but they vanished during the Spanish conquest. Because of that, no one really knows why the spheres are here!
