Earlier this year, fashion brand Gucci released its newest shoe, sneakers that were inspired by video game developer Sega. But the shoe is more than just that. It is designed to look like hiking shoes, and features removable jewel-encrusted straps. The new shoe has just been made available for retail with a price tag of $1,590. It goes without saying that the shoes have received mixed reviews.
Gucci officially unveiled their newest show design earlier this year when they debuted a pair at its Fall and Winter 2018 show during Milan Fashion Week in February. The shoes are now available for pre-order at Nordstrom. They are also available in Gucci’s official website and at retailers like Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, but customer will have to wait for availability. The shoes are available in five color options, including black, green, and cream.
The shoe’s unconventional design was inspired by vintage video game maker, Sega, and you can find the Gucci logo alongside the classic Sega logo at the front of the show. Then there are the straps that loop around the show with its own jewel encrusting. Aside from its steep price and eccentric design, some have said it is one of the ugliest shoes that they have seen. But there are actually a lot of people on social media who can’t wait to get their hands on their own pair.
The shoe is designed to look like a hiking shoe or a rubber show, although with the bejeweled straps, it’s safe to assume that no one will be wearing these when they go hiking or climbing.
