Lonely Adelaide Widower Finally Goes Fishing After Gumtree Post Goes Viral

Ray Johnstone posted an online ad looking for a ‘fishing mate’ on January 19 after his care nurse suggested that he do so.

In it, he wrote, “I’m a widowed pensioner who is looking for a fishing mate. My previous fishing mate is now deceased.”

He then added that he had ‘the gear for all types of fishing’ and was looking for a ‘fishing mate in a similar position to myself’. He also wrote how he was willing to share all the costs.

Little did the 75-year-old widower know, though, that his ad would tug the heartstrings of many from all over the world.

Most importantly, the ad going viral helped Mr. Johnstone reel a new fishing mate.

In fact, Mr. Johnstone was flown up to Amity Point on North Stradbroke island for an all-expenses-paid, two-day fishing trip, and was hosted by Mati Batsinilas, a local carpenter.

He has officially rayed it!#raysmadeit

The heart warming adventure was posted on Facebook by Mr. Batsinilas for everyone to see.

Judging by the looks of it, Mr. Ray Johnstone definitely seems to be enjoying himself.

Kudos to the internet for helping Mr. Johnstone go on an adventure he likely will never forget.
