An Amazing Lineage
Madison and Eston were both fought in the Civil War as Union solider’s, and were respected in their time. The impressive feats don’t stop there for the Hemings family! The great-grandson of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, Frederick Madison Roberts, became the first elected person of black ancestry to take public office on the West Coast. He served in the California State Assembly for 20 years.
