Jefferson and Hemings
Many believe that in Paris, Jefferson and Hemings began an intimate relationship. Jefferson was in his mid 40s and Sally was just 16 when she became pregnant. That is why she and her brother returned with the Jeffersons back to America. She then had six children in her lifetime after Europe, and most historians and observers in that time period believe that they were all Jeffersons. The relationship was never written about until 20 years after the last child was born.
