Proud mother Sarah Whelan Curtis delivered her genetics thesis with grace and dignity.
Yes, I did a photo shoot with my thesis. Longest labor ever. #phdlife pic.twitter.com/wpGdFPANd6— Sarah Whelan Curtis (@sarahwcurtis) June 4, 2019
Curtis, 26, a graduate student at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, just finished submitting the thesis she had been working on for four years about epigenetics. Epigenetics is the study of how gene regulation is capable of changing independent of DNA sequence.
Her defense is scheduled for June 14. Until then, Curtis has decided to share a maternity-style newborn photoshoot with her project. “Yes, I did a photoshoot with my thesis,” tweeted Curtis on Monday. “Longest labor ever.”
The photos depict Curtis holding the 183-page thesis wrapped in a pink-and-blue blanket like a baby. She said, “I have a lot of nieces and nephews, and my mom told me, ‘Either get a Ph.D. or give me a grandchild.’ I got my doctorate.”
