Teachers are there to provide their students with help and support, even if it is matters outside of the classroom. But for this case, it was student who offered a heart-melting gesture in support of her teacher when she gave him her ice cream money as comfort for the loss that he was experiencing in his life. The teacher shared the story on social media where it quickly went viral.
Prince Lawrence is a teacher at Highlands Elementary in Huntsville, Alabama. He was feeling understandably sad at work after his wife’s father passed away over the weekend. Lawrence said that his students noticed that he was a bit off so he decided to tell them about the situation. After he dismissed the class, one girl walked up to the teacher and gave him something.
“This morning, during first period, my kids could tell that I was a little off. When they asked why I wasn’t acting normal I explained to them that my wife’s father had passed away this weekend and that I was worried about her. They all said they were sorry and then we got started on our work. While standing at my door giving hugs and high fives at dismissal to 2nd period one little girl put something in my hand.” explained Lawrence.
“She told me ‘This is for your wife. I know it was real expensive when my daddy died and I don’t really want ice cream today anyways.’ I wish the world would pay more attention to children. We could learn a lot from them.”
