Cruise Ship Owned by Church of Scientology Quarantined over Measles Concerns

Health officials in St. Lucia have ordered a ship to stay in port after learning through “reputable sources” that a passenger on board has the measles.

Freewinds, the cruise ship owned by the Church of Scientology, is moored in St. Lucia due to the threat of spreading the disease. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Merlene Fredericks-James said that after discussing the matter with the Pan American Health Organization, they felt it was “prudent that we quarantine the ship.”

Fredericks-James said one person with measles could easily infect others by coughing and sneezing around them. The St. Lucia Times posted a photograph of the ship in Port Castries. The Church of Scientology has not made a comment on the incident.
