In Massachusetts, a bride was having wonderful wedding day when she rode the elevator to get to the 18th floor of the hotel. That’s when things turned because she was all of a sudden stuck inside an elevator in what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. But she didn’t let something like that put a damper on her spirits, especially on that particular day.
32-year old Melissa Rodger married her fiancé Justin earlier this week at the Providence Biltmore. After the beautiful ceremony, she rode the elevator and headed to the 18th floor to freshen up before her cocktail hour and reception. That’s when the elevator stopped working.
“I asked Justin to go find my bridesmaids and tell them to meet then me on 18th floor with the wedding coordinator,” Rodger said. “We got on and heard a loud noise. It shuttered and shook. It said we were on the 18th floor but [the door] never opened.” Rodger also said that she thought that the doors would definitely open after a few minutes, but it never did. After a while the wedding coordinators called the hotel for help. Eventually, the fire department was called to rescue the stuck bride. It took 20 minutes for them to arrive and another 20 minutes to get her out.
While waiting, Rodger managed to attend her cocktail hour, from inside the elevator. The fire department managed to pry the elevator doors open and allow the guests to talk to the bride.
“I started to wonder, ‘How long am I going to be in here?'” Rodger said. “People on the 17th floor were able to pass me glasses of champagne, so that was nice. I was super excited and totally relieved.”
