First Fatality was on the Alpine Slide
In 1980, an employee was riding a sled down the slide when it jumped the track. He ended up falling down a steep embankment and onto sharp rocks on the bottom. He ended up with a very serious head injury that killed him eight days later. The ride was never closed; it never even faltered. All they did was install hay bails on the corners to catch riders who were flung off their sled.
