Young Son Swims Over an Hour to Save His Father and Little Sis

Not all heroes wear capes...sometimes they wear swim trunks!

This past Memorial Day weekend, young Chase Poust, 7, was out with his father and younger sister, 4. He, his sister Abigail, and his father Steven were enjoying the sun shining on Florida’s St. Johns River with a family boating trip. While Steven sat on the deck, Abigail and Chase swam below. It seemed like a nice day... until Abigail got swept away in a current.

Chase swam after her, and it wasn't long until Steven was also in the water to save them. Unfortunately, he knew it wouldn't be easy to save them both.

"I told them I loved them because I wasn’t sure what’s going to happen," Steven told the news. "I tried to stick with both of them. I wore myself out. She drifted away from me."

Chase, being the older of the two, was tasked with swimming to shore so his father could save his sister. Thankfully, he paced himself and slowly got back to safety.

After an hour of swimming, Chase finally reached the shore. He ran to the nearest house to call for help. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were all looking for this family. After another hour, the two were finally rescued and reunited. The Poust family is finally happy, healthy, and super tired!
