Earlier this month, Washington officially dropped "Redskins" after years of controversy. This past Thursday, it was announced that the team will now go by the "Washington Football Team."
The name will act as a placeholder while an official team name is in the works. The logo on helmets will be replaced by the numbers of players until a more permanent decision is reached, and it has been stated that the team will be keeping its classic gold and burgundy color scheme.
For the time being, fans can purchase Washington Football Team merchandise as the franchise scrubs its history clean. The name "Redskins" had previously been in place since 1933.
The team had been facing increased pressure to retire its name and logo for a long time before majority owner Dan Snyder announced that it was time for a change.
The NFL is considering taking financial and disciplinary measures against the Washington Football Team due to sexual harassment allegations leveled by 15 former female employees against the organization.
