Volunteers Save 6 Dogs From Rising Florence Floodwaters In the Nick of Time

The devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Florence has wrecked havoc on the Carolinas. The post-hurricane flooding has caused a tremendous amount of damage to homes, local offices, and local retail spaces—nothing was spared.

Rescue workers have tirelessly continued to help those who have been stranded during this time of need. Among those needing rescue were pets. Even though people were urged to leave the area and take their animals with them, unfortunately, some were left behind.

Rescue workers discovered six dogs in their survey of the affected areas, locked in a cage in Leland, North Carolina as flood waters rose to a dangerous level. A video of the encounter was captured by journalist, Marcus DiPaola, and has been shared over 50,000 times.

As seen in the clip, the dogs stood on their hind legs, to keep their heads above the rising water levels as theywhimpered and barked for help. When the rescue workers unlocked the cage, all six of them swim to safety.

“Rescued six dogs in Leland, NC, after the owner LEFT THEM locked in an outdoor cage that filled with flood water that was rapidly rising,” DiPaola wrote. “We got them out, but by the time we left, the water was so high that they would have drowned. BRING YOUR PETS WITH YOU!”

Unfortunately, this was just one of many animal rescues that occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence—please consider the safety of your pet, too!
