In 1967, the Indian government began attempting to make contact with the tribe. Led by anthropologist T.N. Pandit, these contact expeditions consisted of missions to leave gifts for the tribe when they attempted to visit. They did this in order to sway the tribe’s hostile reactions into more positive ones so that they could get closer to them. It wasn’t until the 1990’s that they were finally received in a positive light.
