The Wasted Bro
Not all rideshare horror stories involve drivers. Sometimes, it’s the passengers who cause trouble. This was the case in Costa mesa, California in October of 2015, when a wasted “bro” decided to assault the Uber driver after he was kindly asked to leave and get out.
Uber driver Edward Caban caught the whole incident on his dashboard cam. He told the police that the passenger, 32-year-old Benjamin Golden, was so intoxicated that he couldn’t give proper directions. Not only that, but he was also acting aggressively towards Caban throughout the ride. So, the driver pulled him over in a parking lot and demanded that he get out of the car. But, the drunken bro refused and outright assaulted Caban. Fortunately, Caban was able to get a hold of his pepper spray and defend himself.
After the incident, Golden, who was actually a brand manager for Taco Bell, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge and subsequently fired after the video went viral. Uber also banned him from ever riding again.
As for Caban, he says he will no longer drive for Uber either, citing that he’d had one too many encounters with drunken bros already.
The Racist Strangler
In September of 2013, the passenger Bridgett Todd was reportedly choked by her Uber Driver. There apparently was a racist motive behind the attack. Although this didn’t stop Uber’s CEO from being outraged after they’d been blamed for the whole incident.
