Janet Jackson was the youngest of the 9 Jackson family siblings. She moved with the family from Gary, Indiana to Encino, California when the Jackson 5 started popping off. Janet followed her brothers and watched closely as they performed on the mainstages, and using the information that she gathered from their careers, she started producing music and performing by herself at the age of 16. After her first record was released, Jackson signed a $50 million contract with Virgin Records (the largest contract signed to a female musician in history at that point) and has since netted significantly more dough.
