The Happening was supposed to horrify audiences with the threat of environmental collapse, but Mark Wahlberg certainly pushed the tone of the film toward more of a black comedy. “You can’t blame me for wanting to try to play a science teacher,” Wahlberg said. “At least I wasn’t playing a cop or a crook.”
