The Linkin Park singer suffered from depression for several years, and his music was very open about his struggle. He's been credited as one of the greatest rock and metal vocalists of his generation. He's often cited as having turned "nu-metal universal." His death was a suicide by hanging. He sang in The Stone Temple Pilots but quit that gig in 2015 to focus solely on Linkin Park. Remaining band member Mike Shinoda released a statement in 2018 that LP would be taking a brief hiatus to regroup.
