Although the true history of the Costa Rican spheres was lost over time, Dr. Hoopes did a residency in a local village and he learned some community history that Dr. Sam Semir Osmanagich never seemed to run across. Evidently, these stone spheres started popping up out of the ground because of erosion long ago, and the people who discovered them originally destroyed them because they thought they were full of gold.
