A phone repairman said the house’s phone line had not been burned in the fire as they initially thought, but someone had climbed up the 14-foot pole and severed it. A missing ladder belonging to the Sodders was also found at the bottom of an embankment. The only bone fragments ever found were human vertebrae, but they had never been exposed to the fire.
