The Pilate Stone
Likely the most authentic proof of the existence of Pontius Pilate, the Pilate Stone was discovered in the Caesarea region of Judea. The stone appeared to be used as part of a staircase for an Ancient Roman theater. Dr. Antonio Frova and his team found the stone with an inscription that translates to something along the lines of “To the Divine Augusti [this] Tiberieum … Pontius Pilate … prefect of Judea … has dedicated [this].” While it is difficult to prove many of the stories in the bible, the Pilate Stone is considered evidence of Pilate’s existence.
