Building a Reputation
As a street preacher, he mainly sermonized in North Square and distributed religious literature there. People began to knw him as a “local eccentric” and religion fanatic. One day, he was returning home from preaching and was approached by two prostitutes. He ignored them, but was deeply disturbed by the encounter. Once he returned home, he began reading chapters of the Gospel of Matthew and felt encouraged to avoid sexual temptation. In doing so, he castrated himself with a pair of scissors. He ate a meal, and then went to the hospital.
