Chamberlin stood out so hard in the Smashing Pumpkins that the founder, Billy Corgan, didn’t have faith that he would stick around in the band. He stuck around, in fact, he brought an element that drove the Smashing Pumpkins to the level of fame that they are on today. Incorporating jazz techniques into emo-pop was a match made in heaven.
