Montgomery Clift Was Dubbed “the Longest Suicide in Hollywood History”
Clift used to be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood until he fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in 1956, moments after leaving a party hosted by Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor allegedly had to pull a tooth out of his tongue because he was choking on it. Clift, ravaged by the mental and physical trauma of the accident, became an alcoholic with a painkiller addiction. The remainder of his life was then known as “the longest suicide in Hollywood history.”
