Cahawba, Alabama

Cahawba was once the capital of Alabama but the area itself was very swampy and prone to flooding. The capital was then moved in 1825 and residents were forced to abandon the city when Confederate soldiers took it over and consumed all of its resources. Soon after, what remained of Cahawba was severely damaged by flood waters in 1865.
