Even though the 2020 Summer Olympics are 529 days away, there’s already been a recent development in the development of Tokyo’s 2020 medals: they will be made out of recycled electronic waste. This includes smartphones, digital cameras, handheld devices, and laptops.
Organizers in Japan have managed to gather more than 5 million phones since launching the Tokyo 2020 medal project two years ago in April 2017. The designs for each medal will be revealed this upcoming summer.
Last November, it was recorded that 48,000 tons of recycled electronics had been collected. The project is scheduled to end in March
