Maura pleaded for him not to call the police, citing she had already called AAA. Atwood found this odd—there was hardly any cell phone reception in this area. Maura maintained that she wanted to sit and wait for AAA in her car. Atwood, out of choices, drove home and contacted the police regardless of her wishes.
