Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford had the most adorable surprise before he kicked off his team's NFL season opener against the Chicago Bears this past Sunday.
Stafford's wife Kelly and their three young daughters all donned Lions cheerleader uniforms and pom-poms to surprise the athlete with a "Let's go Lions!" chant.
Stafford's family cheered for him outside of Ford Field in Detroit, where the team went against the Bears in front of empty stands due to COVID-19 regulations.
"Thank goodness we aren't allowed in, we need some serious practice before we are game ready," Kelly captioned the video she posted to Instagram. The mother of four added that the occasion was a "moment I will never forget."
Kelly, 31, gave birth to the couple's fourth little girl this past summer—only a year after a 12-hour surgery in which doctors removed an acoustic neuroma from her cranial nerves.
She has shared her recovery on social media, as well as the struggles that have come with it, including relearning how to walk and overcoming severe fatigue.
"If there's anything I want people to take away from my story, it's for mothers," Stafford wrote in an essay for ESPN the previous year. "If you ever feel the slightest bit off, you need to take the time to get it checked out. You don't have to put everything on your back. Sometimes, you need to take some time to make sure you are OK."
