Interestingly, much of the sculpture of the Tang Dynasty was religious in nature. At a time when Buddhism was the prevailing faith, craftsmen made myriad carvings of the Buddha, ranging from life-size pieces to exquisite miniatures. The wealth of the Buddhist monasteries funded this impressive period of artistic growth and production.
