Honestly, Palpatine's entire character is just confusing. They try to quickly explain his rise to evil by saying, "The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural." Okay, but how did he harness it that much? Is it really all about power from within? It just seems like there's something missing here...
