Three-legged mouse Pipsqueak was lucky to escape the brunt of Hurricane Laura as it hit the gulf coast area over the weekend. He is one of nearly 400 at-risk animals that were transported from shelters to evade the storm. Wings of Rescue and GreaterGood.org chartered a flight to move these pets from the region before the storm made landfall.
Joining the mouse on the flight were 56 cats, 20 dogs, and 3 rabbits. They were moved from the Houston SPCA and the Galveston Island Humane Society to shelters further away in North Texas. As soon as the plane landed, rescuers got right to work finding a home for all the pets.
Luckily, Pipsqueak racked up quite the waitlist just 24 hours after his adoption information was posted online. The lucky little guy was matched with the perfect family for him, in a dry, safe home thanks to shelter workers. Transport services like Pipsqueak's are crucial to ensuring the safety of shelter animals during severe weather.
