While most millennials worry about not having gone on a date in a few weeks, Edwin Holmes, an 86-year-old widower has not gone on a date in the past 55 years.
Ellie Walker learned about this and knew that she had to do something, and so she invited the lonely pensioner to have dinner with her.
The elderly man certainly knew how to dress to impress, showing up in a suit and tie and even brought flowers.
After seeing this, the 22-year-old said she began to cry, and speaking to The Sun, she said: “He said it was his first ‘date’ in 55 years and he was as nervous as a schoolboy,” before adding, “It made me cry because I could see how much it meant to him. For me it’s the most important part of my job to speak with customers and see how their day is going.”
Walker, who works at a Sainsbury’s in Leeds, calls the 86-year-old ‘without a shadow of a doubt my favorite customer’, adding that ‘he is the cutest man and so chatty.’
The unlikely friends now regularly meet for coffee and a little chat, with Walker saying that they both enjoy each other’s company.
Simply adorable.
