Rushing to the Hospital
The new family rushed to Blank Childrens Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa where they would quickly learn what exactly was wrong with their seemingly healthy baby girl. The doctors were quick to diagnose that she was coming down with meningitis HSV-1, an extremely deadly virus for such a young newborn. This virus can be a complication from herpes, and can be passed through people even if they don’t have an open sore. Since Mariana was so young, it made sense for the rare complication to arise.
