Dawkins was immediately taken to the hospital and hooked up to an IV for a few hours. He told doctor’s and his coaches that he had barely eaten in the past two days and that the water in his home had been shut off so he hadn’t had much to drink. Over the next few months, his coaches looked after him, taking him to the grocery store and giving him some money.
