Nazca Lines
These lines were first spotted by pilots in the early 20th century, and it left them befuddled! These huge, geometric shapes were abstract depictions of animals, plants, and other figures that are dated to about 2,000 years ago. They were crafted by pre-Inca Naszca peoples, who removed the red surface pebbles on the ground to reveal the lighter earth below. Experts say that they were probably trying to communicate with their deities.
