On December 3, 1957, Maria begged her mother to let play outside in the fresh snowfall. After her dinner, Maria and her best friend, Kathy Sigman, went outside in the dark near Maria’s house to play “duck the cars,” a game which involved dodging the headlights of oncoming vehicles.
