For most of us, the definition of being ‘hard working’ is to keep our heads down and work hard every day. There’s nothing wrong with that because that’s really how it should be, which is also why hard working probably isn’t enough to describe what Derrick Taylor has to go through every day.
You see, the 19-year-old walks five miles in the middle of the night to begin his 4 am shifts, and then walks back again after his shift is over – all without complaining.

Taylor works at a UPS depot in Oxford, Alabama, and despite living miles away from his workplace and having to walk for hours every day, he never misses work.
The staff at the Oxford UPS branch soon caught wind of the 19-year-old’s situation and decided to do something about it.
The video above shows the staff giving Taylor a bottle green Cherokee jeep that they bought for $1,100 from a local dealer.
Posting the incredibly heartwarming video to Facebook, an employee wrote:
“At UPS, we take care of our own. Derrick walked to work everyday rain or shin because he didn’t have a car. We all pitched in and took care of him.
I’m so proud to be a part of the group. Special thanks to retirees – Tim Simmons and Jim Huggins for making this possible! (JD Ward and Wade MCClure raised funds.
Thanks to all the employees that contributed including management.”
This just goes to show that hard work and perseverance always pays off in the end.
Kudos to the UPS staff for a truly extraordinary gesture.
