Instructor Teaches MS Word without a Computer

A Ghana teacher had to teach his class about a very common computer program, Microsoft Word. We’ve all used this program to write and create documents. But this teacher did not have access to a computer to teach his young students about this basic program. But he didn’t let that stop him. Instead, he used his blackboard and drew the program and its features by hand just so he could teach his students about it.

The teacher, named Owura Kwadwo from Ghana, shared the lengths that he had to go to teach his class about MS Word, despite being limited to a rural farming community that lacked basic resources. He said that despite his limitations he wanted to make sure that these students would be familiar with the program for benefit of their future. He posted his teaching process on a social media to be an example to those that are thinking of giving up.

“Every teacher has a way of presenting his subject to his students. This is my way,” he said. “The government is helpful and I believe in them, they are trying to make ICT better for the teachers and students. We need well-equipped infrastructures and teaching and learning aids, and a government who has education at its heart.”

It is a reality in Ghana for Information Technology to be taught on a blackboard but Kwadwo thinks that schools in Ghana are slowly but surely getting better equipped. Just after Kwadwo’s post, his school was sent several donations for laptops and projectors for the computer classes of the students.
