A Piece of History
The First World War wasn’t the ships only claim to fame, though. It became a key player in aiding creative innovation. Famous American inventor and businessman, Thomas Edison, climbed aboard several times to travel back and forth from New York to conduct experiments to aid his incredible creations. When the war ended, the USS Sachem was sold to Roland L. Taylor, a banker from Philadelphia, before being bought by Captain Jacob Martin of Brooklyn in 1932.
