John Adams was the second President of the United States and the first resident of the White House. It is common knowledge that the home was built by slave laborers, Adams himself never owned a slave and was known to not really care for the issue. His son, John Quincy Adams, grew up to be the sixth President of the United States and did not own slaves either. In fact, in his later years, he grew to be a stubborn opponent of slavery.
