Physical Evidence
Once they were done clearing out the room, Sally’s room had been officially opened up. So much evidence has been discovered just by finding this room! It’s now believed that Sally had a significantly higher standard of living than the other enslaved people living in Monticello. She had no windows in her room originally, so it would have been dark and damp conditions to live in. Many find that putting the bathroom in had been on purpose, to cover Jefferson’s tracks.
