The nation mourned the loss of former president, George H. W. Bush, after he passed away on November 30th, but the people of America weren’t the only ones feeling somber.
Bush’s service dog, Sully, was by his side to the end.
The Instagram account for his service dog posted a photo of the lab lying in front of Bush’s casket with the caption “Mission Complete” on Friday.
Sully waited by his former owner’s side as the family prepared for the funeral services.
Bush has only had Sully since June. He was sent to him by America’s VetDogs, an organization that trains and places service dogs with disabled military veterans and first responders. The former president was a pilot in the Navy serving in WWII.

Sully became such a special part of Bush’s life that he even got himself some socks with Sully’s face printed on them. He served the president by assisting him around the house. He could open doors, summon assistance, and pick up dropped items.
Since H.W.’s passing, Sully will now join the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Facility Dog Program after the holidays.
