A Florida man won the Powerball prize using a strangely coincidental set of numbers—the ones on his Fortune cookie.
Ernesto Sorzano went to pick up shrimp-fried rice from his favorite takeout place. As per usual, Sorzano received a Fortune cookie with his purchase, which he opened to reveal a set of lucky numbers.
The numbers matched four of the white balls in a Powerball drawing, winning him $50,000. However, because Sorzano had picked up a $3 Power Play ticket, his prize tripled ten times to $500,00 when the 10X multiplier was drawn.
"That was a good investment," he said.
Sorzano, a resident of Estero, Flordia, claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina on Monday, taking home $352,751 after federal and state tax withholdings. Sorzano is moving to another town and plans to purchase a new home with the money.
"Unbelievable," he said. "I'm just super happy that my dreams came true."
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
