Kardashians Spark Debate over What Really Qualifies as a Salad

Kourtney Kardashian is trying her hand at living a Gwyneth Paltrow “Goop” lifestyle with the launch of her latest entrepreneurial endeavor, Poosh. Poosh is a lifestyle website promising tips about how to get an “instant butt lift” and recommendations for wine from a family that notoriously avoids alcohol. But, perhaps most importantly of all, Poosh has incited an Internet-wide crisis about what can technically be considered a salad.

Poosh offers Kourtney’s “signature salad” recipe consisting of what appears to be a random selection of foods. It doesn’t sound terrible: the ingredients include “2 hard-boiled eggs (quartered), 1/2 avocado (sliced), 1 hothouse tomato, 2 fresh mozzarella balls, olive oil, sea salt, pepper.” However, people are questioning whether this can be called a salad or not.

Presently, Kardashian’s “salad” is being called “just foods on a plate” and “worse than a Starbucks protein box” by The Washington Post. The question is vaguely philosophical, and in the end, probably isn’t the biggest takeaway from Poosh, but there has yet to be a concrete answer to what makes a salad…a salad.
