Ulysses S. Grant
The United States president, just four days before he passed away. Friend of Mark Twain.
Ulysses S. Grant wrote several memoirs throughout his life, and he is pictured here writing another, only days before his final death. The general rose through the army ranks despite his poor grades and alcoholic tendencies at West Point. Grant wrote to Mark Twain before his death and asked him to write his memoirs as they could bring him a lot of money after he passed.
