In 1914, on June 28th, Archduke Ferdinand was on a trip with Countess Sophie Chotek to Sarajevo. Many tried to assassinate the politician, but only one managed to carry out the task. That man was 19-year-old Bosnian Serb student Gavrilo Princip. Though Ferdinand begged the Countess to go back to the palace, she refused, and they were both shot in the assassination.
