Believe it or not, Anderson Cooper's popularity is largely due to nepotism starting with his mother. He was born the son of Gloria Vanderbilt. She was an actor, author, artist, fashion designer, and a regular writer for the New York Times' civilian journalism column. Cooper spent his life riding on his mother's coattails, and because of that, he has become one of the most recognizable journalists in history.
