The famous and applauded author of To Kill a Mockingbird never shared her wealth or fame with any partner. Even though she chose to keep her private life a secret, she was generally pretty open about her lack of desire to get married. She also never had any children. She passed away in 2016.

The first American woman to go to medical school was admitted as a joke. Geneva Medical School thought it was joke when Elizabeth Blackwell applied to attend 1847. She graduated in 1849, started her own practice, and opened an infirmary for the poor.
