Instead of offering their assistance, the officials abandoned their duties and left the visitors to fend for themselves. They refused to give up, though. They knew if they wanted the mystery solved they would have to get to the bottom of it all on their own, and so, that’s exactly what they did. Step one: digging like crazy to get underneath the floor to where the sounds were coming from.
